Chemical Ethics Committee (CEC)

Background:

The preliminary role of Chemical Ethics Committee is to implement the Guidelines for the disposal of chemical waste and glassware waste generated on site. All the scientific laboratories of Goa University that use chemicals should follow the guidelines mentioned in the policy document ‘Segregation and Disposal of Laboratory Waste and Effluents’.

The chemical waste is segregated mainly as organic waste, aqueous waste and solid silica waste for disposal at Government approved facilities. The waste is stored at designated places within the campus and once sufficient waste is generated, the process for disposal is initiated. The NOC from Goa State Pollution Control Board is taken for the disposal at the Government approved hazardous waste disposal site. This is one of the best practices at Goa University which ensures compliance with respect to disposal of hazardous chemical waste.
