Eligibility:

The Faculty Induction Programmes and Refresher Courses are meant for in-service teachers eligible as per UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) rules, regulations and guidelines. They are:

  • Faculty Induction Programmes and Refresher Courses
    • Faculty members working in universities and colleges that are included under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, even though they may not yet be fit under Section 12 (B), may be invited to participate in the orientation and refresher courses. The teachers of colleges that do not yet come within the purview of Section 2(f), but have been affiliated to a university for at least five years, will be permitted to participate in the courses.
    • The temporary/ contract teachers, teaching for at least two academic sessions in an institution affiliated to a UGC recognized University for at least two years (UGC circular No.F.271(i)/2002(ASC) dated 18.2.2005)
  • Faculty Induction Programme
    • For the newly appointed teacher up to six years of continuous service
    • Adhoc/Temporary teachers who have been working for at least one year as Lecturer/Assistant Professor are permitted to participate in Faculty Induction Programme
  • Refresher courses
    • A teacher who attended a Faculty Induction Programme a year before
    • The gap between two successive Refresher Courses is at least one year

Tentative Programme Schedule (2023-2024)

Terms and conditions of participation:

  • UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Goa University must receive duly filled applications in prescribed form by email only to [email protected], 45 days before the commencement of the course. The selected candidates will be intimated by an email communication 15 to 20 days before the course starts. On selection, the participation is confirmed only after receipt of registration fees of Rs. 1000/- (Non-Refundable) to the University. (The Bank and the account details will be communicated after selection of the candidate).
  • The participants' performance will be assessed with Grades for Faculty Induction Program and Refresher Courses. The grades will be indicated on the certificate given at the end of the course
  • Absence of any kind during the course period is not allowed

Methodology:

For both the Faculty Induction Programmes and Refresher Courses the medium of instruction is English. Faculty Induction Programmes and Refresher Courses have in-built seminars / symposia. Apart from interactive lecture-cum-discussion sessions, panel / group discussions, role play, field visits may be organized.

Evaluation:

The participants are evaluated on their performance and participation in various aspects of the programmes, such as journals, book-reviews, seminars, field-trips, tests, overall participation. Grades are then awarded as per the UGC guidelines:

Infrastructure:

Lecture Halls

Three air-conditioned spacious well-furnished lecture halls with modern amenities like public address system, projection system and network connectivity. Seating arrangement in all the halls is flexible and can accommodate 40 participants.

Boarding and Lodging

Accommodation for participants is arranged at the University Guest House located about one km from the UGC-MMTTC. The UGC-MMTTC, Goa University will provide breakfast, intra-sessional refreshments and working lunch on all the working days. However, the cost of the dinner has to be borne by the participants.

Computer Laboratory

An Internet ready computer laboratory with Multimedia Facilities, LCD projector, Scanner, Laser Printer, etc. Essential software are pre-loaded onto the computers.

Library

Print reading material and online access to the electronic resources on a variety of topics of interest are available.

Office

The offices for the Director, Deputy Director, Asstt. Director, Superintendent, Non-teaching staff and supporting staff besides a store room, etc., form part of UGC-MMTTC building. They are equipped with desk top and  printer facilities.

Faculty Induction Programm (Rationale):

The Faculty Induction Program enables the newly appointed teachers to discover their own potentialities and role. These programs provide various guideline to the teaching community to enrich their potentials in academics and research. Further, the teacher also get an opportunity to widen their outlook and inculcate social commitment with the following objectives:

  • Understand the significance of education in general and higher education in particular with regard to National policies and International standards
  • Understand the linkages between education and the socio-economic and cultural development with particular reference to Indian policy where secularism and egalitarianism are the tenets of society
  • Understand the role of a College / University teacher in the National goal of achieving a secular and egalitarian society
  • Acquire and improve skills of teaching at the College / University level
  • Be aware of developments in the specific subject
  • Understand the organisation and management of a College/ University and to improve the role of a teacher in the total system
  • Utilise opportunities for the development of personality, initiative and creativity

To achieve these objectives, the curriculum for the Faculty Induction Programme has the following four components with minimum of 108 contact hours (6 hours daily for 18 days) programme:

  • Component A : Awareness of linkages between Society, Environment, Development and Education
  • Component B : Philosophy of Education, Indian Education system and Pedagogy
  • Component C : Resource Awareness and knowledge generation
  • Component D : Management and Personality Development

Refresher Courses (Rationale):

All disciplines today are under pressure due to knowledge explosion. It becomes therefore essential for a College / University teacher to continuously update his knowledge in his field of expertise. The Refresher Courses provide opportunities to In-service teachers:

  • To exchange their experiences with peers and counterparts and mutually learn,
  • Update themselves on the latest advances and possibly pursue research,
  • Get exposed to new methods, innovations and plan to develop their own techniques of instructions in their working environment, and
  • Create the culture of learning and self-improvement.
